Learn about our sedation safety standards, from pre-sedation assessment and monitoring oxygen saturation, heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, carbon dioxide, and ECG to checking recovery.

SAFETY GUIDED SEDATION

The goal is not simply to put you to sleep.

It is to keep you as comfortable as possible

while prioritizing safety.

About the treatment

NEWYOUNG CLINIC's Safety-Guided Sedation does not aim to make you completely unconscious

or leave you with no memory of the procedure.

Its main purpose is to help you undergo treatment as comfortably as possible while staying within safe limits.

We may deliberately keep sedation lighter for your safety. You may remember parts of the procedure or briefly feel discomfort; we prioritize safer sedation over deeper sleep.

Sedatives such as propofol can suppress breathing and lower oxygen levels, so monitoring oxygen saturation and pulse alone may be insufficient.

We use a multiparameter monitoring system of the type used in critical care.

We monitor heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, breathing rate, ECG, and end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) through capnography, which can detect changes in breathing earlier.

If breathing slows or carbon dioxide changes abnormally, we reduce or stop the sedative to prioritize the return of stable, spontaneous breathing.

We also have a defibrillator, emergency medications, and airway equipment, and all staff undergo CPR training and repeated in-clinic emergency simulations.

After sedation, a dedicated clinician monitors recovery one-on-one for 30 minutes.

Before you leave, Medical Director Dr. SeoJoon Oh personally checks your recovery and advises when you may go home.

03 Monitor your condition with multiple measures

A. Changes in circulation B. Changes in breathing

During sedation, we monitor oxygen saturation and heart rate, along with blood pressure, breathing rate, ECG, and end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2).

04 Adjust sedation promptly if breathing, blood pressure, or consciousness changes

A. Adjust medication in response to change B. Prioritize stable breathing

If breathing slows or carbon dioxide levels change abnormally during sedation,

we reduce or stop medication to help restore stable breathing.

05 Prepare for emergencies

A. Emergency equipment and response procedures

We keep a defibrillator, emergency medications, and airway equipment ready for unexpected events. All staff receive CPR training and take part in repeated emergency simulations at the clinic.

06 Continue monitoring during recovery

A. Observe during recovery B. Confirm adequate recovery

You do not leave immediately after the procedure.

A responsible clinician stays with you until you wake and repeatedly checks key vital signs.

07 Leave after the doctor checks your recovery

A. Final recovery check by the Medical Director

Once your recovery appears sufficient,
